The Junior Softball All-Stars from Eagle Pass Little League fell for the second straight day at the Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, Wash., losing 11-2 to the East Region champions from West Point Little League in Pennsylvania.

Seven fielding errors cost the Southwest squad from Texas dearly, and a pair of miscues in a four-run fourth inning sealed the fate of coach Willie Ruiz's squad.

"Errors are going to kill you in the World Series," he said "You have to play as close to perfect as you can when you're playing against the best in the world."

Morgan Ryan and Maddie Uschock combined to hold Eagle Pass to only two base hits on the afternoon, while a host of hard hit balls seemed to find opposing leather.

"I know our team is focused and can hit the ball," Ruiz said. "Today, we just hit the ball to the glove, and we can't win like that."

West Point jumped in front with a three-run first inning, before pushing its margin to 5-0 headed into the bottom of the second.

The bottom third of the Eagle Pass order managed to manufacture a pair of runs to get back within striking distance, before things unraveled in the fourth, sending them to their second loss in as many days in the Pacific Northwest.

Consuelo Hernandez got the start in the pitcher's circle, and allowed nine runs before giving way to Leenette Krezdorn in the fourth.

Lynet Gil and Karina Ruiz had the only hits of the game, with Karina and Izabella Ruiz scoring the only runs of the game for the Southwest champions.

"Their pitcher was dominant," Willie Ruiz said of Ryan.

While the loss makes it all but impossible for Eagle Pass to reach the semifinals, Ruiz said he hopes his team can regroup for its final games of pool play, and leave Washington with its heads held high.

"We have to play like it is the championship game," he said. "We just need to take it one win at a time."
