Tres had a big hit to drive in two runs against in-state rivals Houston this past week as the 'Horns won the Super Regional 4-0 and 4-2 with Barrera behind the plate and batting in the 4 hole.

In the bottom of the fourth, the UH left fielder dropped a catchable ball that went for two bases. A walk and an incredible bunt single by Barrera loaded the bases, and CJ Hinojosa provided a clutch single for a pair of RBI's. A sac fly and a Kacy Clemens RBI single gave Texas a 4-0 lead.

The Sharyland catcher was projected to go somewhere around the first 100 picks of the 2013 MLB draft, but Head Coach Augie Garrido breathed a sigh of relief when he decided to go to Texas instead after a stellar career at Sharyland as a quarterback and standout baseball player there.
In a series victory at Texas Tech, Barrera had an 8-for-19 week at the plate.
The freshman had a .737 slugging percentage with three doubles and his first career home run, while also leading the team with seven RBI's.
He had his best game at the plate in an 11-1 win over the Red Raiders, who are also dancing this year in the World Series, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, two doubles and two HBP to reach base five times on the evening.
Since March 11, Barrera is .460 at the plate, including five doubles, a triple and a home run. He has a .660 slugging percentage and a .491 on-base percentage (1.151 OPS) in that span.
Barrera's exploits include being named a Louisville Slugger first team All-American catcher as a senior in 2013 and garnering first team All-State shortstop honors batting .452 for his career with 22 home runs at Mission Sharyland. He was recently named Big XII Newcomer of the Week.
