"He rose to the occasion," said Olivas, "He's worked really hard these last two weeks and is prepared to come back next year and take one of those medals." Caoch Olivas said that several universities expressed an interest in Chisum including Texas A&M Kingsville, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and The University of the Incarnate Word, "After this week more will come calling." And call they did as father David Chisum informed The News Gram that none other that the US Naval Academy at Annapolis are interested in the junior and are willing to give him a full ride to attend Navy and become a part of their track program. Coach Olivas would like to thank second-year coach Iza Mancha on an excellent job preparing him for this event.

Eagle track standout Ty Chisum placed sixth at the 2014 State Track and Field Meet held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. Chisum turned in a personal best and school record 47' 7 1/2" in the triple jump on Saturday and according to Head Coach Roger Olivas, he turned a lot of heads and opened some very important eyes.
