The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles found a way to generate three runs in a veritable pitching battle between Cat De La Cruz and McAllen's Zabanna Sanchez to come away with a hard-fought 3-0 victory in Game 1 of the Area Championship at the Zachary Sports Complex in Laredo.

Head Coach Coca Ruiz informed The News Gram of the details of this very exciting ball game.

"Sandra Mendoza went one for three, but she got that hit in the bottom of the sixth inning when she led off the inning with a double," stated the coach, "Crystal (Perez) caught them playing in and laid down a perfect bunt between the pitcher and the first baseman and beat it out moving Sandra to third, but she came home on the throw and a bad throw to the catcher allowed Crystal to move to second with no outs."

Standout hitter Monica Flores drove one into left center field which could've left the yard, but according to Coach Ruiz, she didn't get all of it, however the Bulldog left fielder was able to run it down moving Perez to third on the sac fly.

This is when Sandra's sister Mel put the "S" on her chest laying down a picture perfect squeeze bunt and beat it out at first as a defensive miscue allowed Perez to score and put Mendoza on first with one out.

She stole second and Sanchez got a big strikeout then De La Cruz grounded one to the pitcher who made an errant throw to third scoring Mendoza with the third and final Eagle tally.

Cat got the leadoff hitter to ground out to Sandra Selina at short, then she hit the next batter putting a runner at first with one out and then the Mendoza Connection ended the game on a 4-6-3 double play from Melanie to Sandra to Sammy Fuentes at first to end the game.
