The Eagle Pass Eagles traveled to Laredo to face off with the Mission Sharyland Rattlers at UniFirst Stadium where Chris Perez pitched a great game, however, despite a nine hit hitting performance, the Eagles were not able to get the offensive production when they most needed it falling by the minimal difference of 2-1 on Friday night.

The Eagles had bases loaded in the third inning with RJ Ruiz standing at third when Lance Madden tried to pick him off at third sending the ball to the left field foul area plating the lone Eagle run of the game.

Errors and a questionable call by umpires in the bottom of the sixth inning cost the Eagles the ball game when the Rattler leadoff hitter got on on an error on the shortstop followed by a bunt to third which also turned out to be an errant throw to first which scored the first Sharyland run of the game to tie the game at 1-1.

The most questionable call of the game came on a play with men on first and second and no out, when the Rattler batter laid down a bunt and the Eagles had apparently gotten the lead runner at third, but the man in  blue had another opinion and unfortunately for the Eagles, there is no replay rule in the UIL playbook.

This lead to Chris Perez buckling down and getting the next batter to strike out with bases loaded and getting the next batter to fly out to center which effectively would have been the third out in the inning which turned out to be a sacrifice fly which scored the only run in the inning, but turned out to be the difference in the game.

"Our kids hit the ball well, but we didn't get the timely hits we needed to beat this team," stated Head Coach Reynol Mendoza.
