Lady Mavs shortstop Ari Ruiz came through with a shot to left to open up the scoring. Ruiz stole second and then catcher Lorena Sanchez drove her in for the second Maverick tally, Winn 2, Edinburgh coming to bat.
What followed over the course of the game, starting pitcher Amberly Graza had some control issues allowing runners to get on base via the free pass compounded with miscues allowed North to jump out 10-2 even after Brittany Perez came in strong in relief.
The lone other highlight of game one was Ronnie Valdez' final home run in a Silver & Black Attack uniform as she took Longoria yard in the sixth inning to make the final score Edinburgh 10, Winn 3.
In Game 2, Longoria and Garza were involved in a pitcher's duel for the entire ball game until the top of the sixth when Cassandra Flores grounded out on a hot shot to the third base corner followed by another hard hit single down the line by Ari Ruiz who stole second, was moved over to third by a sacrifice fly by Ronnie Valdez moving the possible go ahead run to third.
Lorena Sanchez tried to drive the ball to the right side, but she was thrown out at home ending the inning and the Mav scoring theat.
Still tied at 0, the Coogs got a runner on with a base on balls followed by two questionable infield singles and then a shot up the middle bouncing of the pitcher's plate. In one quick and fluid motion Ruiz picked the ball out of mid-air with a bare hand and delivered a strike to the catcher, but in the bang-bang play with the runner coming in, Sanchez was unable to complete the force beginning the avalanche that was a twelve run sixth for the Cougars catapulting them into the second round where they will face Brownsville Porter.
