Cat De La Cruz threw a magnificent two-hit, 6K shutout, yet the Eagle Pass Eagles had to get over the hump that was opposing pitcher Sheila Abbott who got what she needed to get out of at least two big innings as the Lady Eagles managed to wrestle a 4-0 victory from the Edinburgh Vela Sabrecats.

"We were a little over aggressive in the first innings fouling off ball after ball and getting ourselves in a two strike hole quickly and their pitcher had a good riser that was getting our best hitters," stated Head Coach Coca Ruiz, "We must've fouled off 20 pitches!"

Sandra Mendoza got on in the second inning, stole second and Crystal Perez got her over to third with a drag bunt, but Abbott got two big strikeouts to get out of the inning unscathed.

Vivian Ramirez lead of the third inning with a base hit, Mendoza dragged and beat it out to notch her second hit of the contest (She went 3 for 3 at the plate), Perez sacrificed both Ramirez and Mendoza over to 2nd and 3rd then Monica Flores got a hold of one driving a ball deep into left field to drive in the first two runs for EP High.

Flores stole third and Melanie Mendoza executed a picture perfect safety squeeze which startled the Sabrecat defense scoring Flores.

The next inning Vela had two key defensive plays to keep the Eagles at bay as Perez was caught stealing second and Flores was called out for leaving the base early, but Abbott gave up two walks when Ramirez hit an absolute shot down the third base line and the Sabrecat third baseman made an outstanding play to get a streaking Ramirez at first stealing at least a double which would've scored two more.

In the fifth, Sandra Mendoza led off with a double to center, stole third and the catcher's throw careened off of her helmet into the outfield allowing the fourth and final Eagle Pass run to score.

Ace hurler Cat De La Cruz was stupendous in the circle allowing only two hits on the night and striking out 6 to earn her first shutout of the playoffs.
