Coach Gus Varela's squad boasts a triumvirate of pitchers who may or may not make their appearances in the circle in Amberly Garza, Brittany Perez and up and coming freshman hurler Marichelo Flores.
Ari Ruiz will make her attempt to continue her recent hitting exploits which included a three run homer in the final game of the season against Eagle Pass along with stalwart third baseman Ronnie Valdez who will also attempt to put a hurting on any pitch in her zone against a formidable squad from Edinburgh North who have a senior pitcher who may or may not return to the circle after an early season injury, however her replacement Jackie Longoria has gone 11-1 this season for the Lady Cougars.
Although the Lady Cougars are the champions of their district, it wouldn't be the first time the Lady Mavericks have knocked off a 1 seed in the first round of the playoffs to advance to area.
Outfielder Giselle Cerda has come into her own in the batter's box as well as center fielder Alyssa Lopez, Cassandra Flores and catcher Lorena Sanchez.
The Lady Mavericks will face-off with Edinburgh North on Friday at 6:00 PM at the Northeast Softball Complex. Game 2 will be at 5:00 PM on Saturday with game 3 thirty minutes afterwards if needed.
