The Alamodome
Local fighter Rudy Lara went the distance holding off all of Jesse James Leija's barrages while getting inside and inflicting damage of his own, enough to score the points necessary to earn a split decision on Friday night in the Alamodome. Lara worked Leija with consistent body shots and was only hit three to four times solidly by the winner of the fight which raised some questions as to which fight the judges saw, however this is only the beginning and according to fight fans who were there, Lara may have been the winner.
Here he poses with the girls from Leija-Battah Promotions just minutes before the fight which featured Alan Sanchez who defeated Jorge Silva in the main event that evening and Joseph "The Texas Mongoose" winning his eighth consecutive pro fight in an impressive display of speed quickness and punching efficiency.
Lara who is scheduled to fight in the USA Boxing Smoker Qualifier in May, is a senior at CC Winn High School who earned Academic All-State honors earlier this year as part of the Maverick Football Program.
