Lady Eagles Crush the Queens, 12-1

The Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Softball Team won their 11th consecutive district game against the Del Rio Queens on Friday April 11th, 2014 when they defeated them 12-1. The Lady Eagles were crowned district 29-5A Champions after their last win against the Laredo United Longhorns. 

The game started off with no runs by either team in the first two innings of play. At the top of the 3rd, the Queens scored their first run and only run of the game on two hits, but when the Eagles came up to bat they responded with 4 runs of their own on two RBI doubles by Monica Flores and Krystal De La Cruz and an RBI single by Melanie Mendoza. In the 4th inning, the Queens had 2 men left on base when the Eagles came up to bat with yet another run bringing in #2 Sandra Mendoza. Then Monica Flores stepped up to the plate for the Eagles and hit a homerun to deep center field scoring the 6th run for the Lady Eagles. The 5th inning revealed a nice double play by the right fielder and 2nd baseman for the Eagles. In the 6th Inning Coach Ruiz changed the lineup giving their backup pitcher, #14 Amanda Appleton, a shot at the Queens. With three up and three down for the pitcher, the Eagles stepped up to the plate. An RBI double and two wild pitches brought in three more runs. With two more runners on base #13 Claudia Cruz came up to the plate and hit a fantastic homerun bringing in three runs and ending the game with the 10-run-rule with a score of 12-1 in the bottom of the 6th.

The Lady Eagles have their final district game against the CC Winn Lady Mavericks on Tuesday April 15th 2014 where they will be on the visitors’ side.
