Eagles and Mavericks at District Track Meet

Coach Roger Olivas and Coach A.T. Garza informed The News Gram of the first day of competition at the 2014 District 29-AAAAA Track Meet being held in Laredo.

For the Mavericks, Coach Garza has David Garza, Josue Barragan and Randy Hernandez competing in the 100 m dash, Jonathan Cavazos, Tony Caballero, and Jonathan Montalvo will be running the 400, Rudy Riza will compete in the 300m hurdles, and Eric Vasquez and Montalvo will run the 200 meters.

Maribel Rodriguez won the district championship in the discus by 2".  Carlos Tijerina placed third in the discus with a toss of 128' 10" and Marco Villarreal placed 6th in the discus.

Coach Olivas let us know that Ty Chisum has qualified in two events. Chisum is the 2014 District Champion in the triple jump with a 45' 3" and he placed third in the long jump.

Hector Alvarez qualified for regionals by placing third in the two mile run.  Iram Gaytan placed 4th in the discus.

All finals were run on Saturday and complete results will be in Thursday's edition of your Eagle Pass News Gram.
