The Mavs came up empty in their half of the first despite a base hit by Isaac Banda.
United plated two more in the second, one unearned as Sebastian Mora walked as did Eddie Gonzalez who worked the count full once more and came in to score on a hit by Gonzalez to make it 4-0. Gonzalez struck out Gutierrez to end the inning.
It was in the bottom of the second that the Mavericks were able to get on the scoreboard when Raul Martinez reached on an error on the pitcher followed by a base smash by Ferny Vielma then a big double by Brandon Sanchez made the score United 4, Winn 2 after two.
The Longhorns generated two more in the third as the base on balls came back to haunt Gonzalez followed by a run producing double by Sebastian Mora.
It wasn't until the seventh and final inning that the Mavericks made their attempt to come back in this game as another error on the pitcher off the bat of Brandon Sanchez followed by a walk to Banda, a base hit by Gonzalez to aid his cause and drive in Sanchez. A sac fly by Erick Perez brought in Banda and Gonzalez scored on an error by the second baseman with the RBI credited to Jonathan Villarreal, but it was a little too little, a little too late for the Silver & Black as the Longhorns left EP with a 7-5 victory.
