When one looks back on the relatively short history of head-to-head matchups between Eagle Pass and CC Winn along with the amount of baseball and softball that is played in our community and abroad as many young ladies are out playing on select clubs across the state and garnering scholarships for their talents, it's hard to believe that in softball, the two teams have not been more even.

On Tuesday, however, Marychelo Flores turned in a five inning one-hit shutout of the Lady Eagles in a 12-0 game for Oscar Rodriguez and Tony Martinez' JV Mavs which set the crowd up for the impressive showcase of the varsity game which EP won 5-3.

These games show the level of softball on both sides of Eagle Pass and the commitment of parents who want their girls to succeed.  Many of these girls have personal coaches who have been working with them at and it shows.

CC Winn left fielder Monica Rodriguez, the leadoff for the Lady Mavs, went 3 for 4 with two doubles, Jenelly Villarreal had an RBI double and Connie Hernandez got the first basehit of the game including a bunt single in the third inning which sparked a Mav rally.

Defensive standouts in this barn-burner were Sydney Gloria who played lights out at the catching position as well as shortstop Aniza Garcia who made each and every play that came her way.
