The Eagles started off strong, quickly shutting down the Wolves at the top of the 1st inning, bringing in two runs with a homerun by Monica Flores. In the bottom of the 3rd the Lady Eagles demonstrated their ability to work as a team stealing both second base and home plate in a great play by Melanie Mendoza and Krystal Perez, bringing the number of runs to 3, but they didn’t stop there. Another homerun by #8 Vivian Ramirez, followed by three more runs for the Eagles, brought the count up to 7 runs at the bottom of the 4th. The Lady Eagles proved too much for the Wolves to handle as the game was called due to the 10-run-rule in the middle of the 6th inning.
Coach Alfonso Calderon, of the LBJ Wolves, stated that “Eagle Pass has always been good” and that the Lady Wolves “didn’t hit as well as [he] would have liked”. The Wolves are currently 0-2 in district wins. Coach Ruiz, head coach for the Eagles mentioned that they were feeling pretty confident, stating “how you practice is how you perform and we practice like champions”.
Now, 3 and 0 the Lady Eagles have a busy week next week as they hit the road and move on to play the Laredo United Longhorns on Monday March 10th, the Del Rio High School Rams Wednesday March 12th and a three day tournament from March 13th to March 15th in San Marcos, Texas.
