Ty Chisum, RJ Ruiz, Jesse Sanchez and Tom Gonzalez' new look Eagle Pass Eagles kicked off the 2013 season against the Rio Grande Valley's own Weslaco East Wildcats on Friday. Weslaco cashed in on their first drive on a 12 play 75 yard drive taking 8:00 off the clock. The Eagles responded with a key interception by Deshawn Franklin to the Wildcat 17.
Franklin surprised the Weslaco QB by jumping the route of the receiver to give the Eagles excellent field position and Ty Chisum capitalized taking ball inside the pylon to tie the game 7-7 with :47 left in the 1st quarter. The Wildcats answered back with 3:32 to play in the half, 14-7 Weslaco.
In the 2nd half the Eagles made some key adjustments and drove down the field as Jesse Sanchez dove into the endzone for the tying score.
But the Wildcats generated another time-consuming drive to pull ahead 21-14. Quarterback Darren Rivas scored again with 9:48 to go to make it 28-14.
Chisum hit RJ Ruiz on a drive saving 12 yard strike for a big first down, then Ty used his legs to get the Eagles to the one yard line! Rich Gonzalez went in motion and took the handoff outracing the Wildcat cornerback for the Eagle TD! 28-21 Weslaco East who ate up the rest of the game clock for
the victory. News Gram Sports received word late Friday that Eric Villasenor and the CC Winn Mavericks edged the Uvalde Coyotes 21-20 by blocking the
Coyotes' final extra point to preserve the one point margin. The Eagles will be at home next week against Nixon and the Mavs will host David Charles'
Martin Tigers on Saturday.
