The Eagle Pass Fire Department hit another home run for community spirit this past weekend, hosting its 2nd Annual Fire Prevention Week Softball Tournament — a growing local tradition that brought together city departments, families, and plenty of friendly competition.

Hundreds of Eagle Pass residents packed the fields to enjoy a day filled with camaraderie, sportsmanship, and America’s favorite pastime. After a full day of games, the Eagle Pass Police Department clinched first place, followed by Microstar in second, Eagle Pass Waterworks in third, and the hosting Eagle Pass Fire Department rounding out the top four.

“A huge thank you to all the families who came out to cheer us on! The day was made even better thanks to the Fire Marshal’s Office and Eagle Pass Waterworks for providing a delicious lunch of hotdogs and burgers for all,” the EPFD shared in a social media post following the event.

Fire Chief Manuel Mello also highlighted that the softball tournament serves as more than just a day of fun — it’s part of the department’s larger mission to raise awareness during Fire Prevention Month. “Our fire prevention efforts continue all month with local school presentations. Stay tuned!” Mello said.

Throughout October, EPFD firefighters and the Fire Marshal’s Office will visit local EPISD campuses to teach students about fire safety, emergency planning and prevention tips — continuing the department’s commitment to keeping the community informed and safe.

The annual softball tournament not only strengthens interdepartmental bonds, but also reminds residents that teamwork — on and off the field — is what keeps Eagle Pass strong.
