The Eagle Pass Renegades traveled to Arlington to play in four games at The Dallas Cowboys’ stadium.
Eagle Pass local football team Renegades 8U had the opportunity to play at the Dallas Red Zone Games this past November 4th.
The Dallas Red Zone Games is a one day event where Rec-level/small town teams ages 6-12 from Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas play in the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T stadium. The event has been described as a football celebration where players and fans get to experience a self-guided tour of the stadium including the Dallas Cowboys locker rooms and a chance to take pictures at the famous star on the field.
Coach Antonio Picazo took his charges to face off against four teams from across America.
The Renegades started on offense vs the New Braunfels Cougars and on the first play of the game, Antonio Picazo IV ran the football for a touchdown on a reverse, then Fullback and News Gram Player Of The Week Emilio Vargas took it in for the extra point up the gut.
Troy Lopez took it to the house after a defensive stop by bumping it outside after a handoff. Vargas added the extra point with another strong run up the middle.
The Cougars answered with a touchdown of of their own, leaving the score 14-6 after a stop by Nose guard Andres Perez on the Cougars extra point attempt.
Picazo had a pick six against the Arkansas Pitbulls, but the final score was Renegades 6, Pitbulls 14.
Luis Villarreal had a 30 yard touchdown run. Vargas had a 2 yard touchdown run up the middle against the Pitbulls in Game 2.
Renegades 8U is a local team currently participating in the Eagle Pass American Youth Football and Cheer League who is looking to continue its participation with the league for the 2024 season.
