When I started teaching last year, I ran into a lot of not only interesting kids, but kids who fight, who struggle with their lives and juggle work to support their families while trying to achieve big dreams in the process. That’s the difference between kids at one school and kids at the other.

This young man exemplifies just that. His mother runs an amazing taco stand in front of Walmart and he wakes up at four or five in the morning, gets his running in and goes to help prep the ingredients to open up the stand by six.

And he not only dedicated himself to the sport of boxing, he’s lost over eighty pounds to do so. Yes you read that right, over eighty pounds.

Now THAT’S dedication to your art.

I give you my student and future pro boxer Luis Ramos.
