The Winn Maverick Boys traveled to SW Legacy for an important match up in the race for a playoff spot. The Mavericks came out with some great energy and were able to put some pressure on the Titans from the get go and it seemed only a matter of time that they would find the opponent’s goal.

The Mavs controlled possession and pace of the game as they continued to probe the stout Titan defense. The Titans did have some responses and did challenge the Mavs in creating some quality shots on goal. The half ended in a 0-0 tie. In the second half the Mavericks had to contend for defensive adjustments that the Titans made, after some frustration dealing with some offsides calls, the Mavericks again seemed to gain an advantage. After multiple quality chances to score the Mavericks met with frustration each time and without a goal. The Titans were able to put pressure on the Mavericks and were able to take some dangerous shots on goal. Late in the game, the Titans tried to capitalize on a big mistake by the Maverick defense that gave them a free run at the goal, the Maverick goalie had to come out of the box to defend and fouled the offensive player. As a result he was shown a red card and sent off while the Mavs played a man down for the rest of the game. The Mavs still had some chances but could not convert and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

On Monday, The Winn Maverick Boys hosted the Harlandale Indians. It was the debut of freshman Jesus Aranda. The game was a tight affair and one that was to determine the top pecking order in the district. This game became chippy as it seemed that the extra curricular actions within the game became an issue.

The Mavericks had a hard time pushing the ball forward, a mistake led to a fast break and score for Harlandale. The final score was 0-2.
