Triumverate, trifecta, triad, trilogy, trinity… There are many words that signify a group of three. Triplet is another.

Well the other day we wrote an article on the only female wide receiver in Eagle Pass. Before we’ve written about The Soto Twins in Lady Maverick Softball. This past week, we ran into another interesting story at The Home of The Silver and Black Attack, triplet basketball players on the same team!

Ashley, Aileen and Amber Tovar are their names and they come from a very athletic family.

The daughters of Aleida and Roberto, their grandfather played ball in Piedras Negras with renowned teams such as La Concha and Sultanes. Their uncles Ricardo and Rolando (Mola and Negro to this reporter) also pitched and played infield. Their father played baseball and their cousins Sebastian and Rolando play travel ball.

Born on November 13, 2004, they are seniors at Winn High and when they walked into my room and I began my interview, they answered in unison! It was so awesome. I even asked them how attached they are to each other and if they feel things together when they’re apart. But just being in their presence, one can tell that they have that attachment to each other. It’s natural for them to be together.

They have not experienced either on the latter, but just imagine three girls answering at the exact same time. I am serious, EXACTLY at the same time.

Me: All three of you play basketball?

Them: Yes.

So you’re 16?

Them: We’re 18.

Me: So you’re not sophomores?

Them: Seniors.

Needless to say, it was a trip talking to these young ladies. Then we broke off into individual tangents and the choral responses stopped.

Ashley is a guard, Aileen is a Power Forward and Amber is a Guard slash Power Forward.

Ashley handles the ball and feeds the ball to Aileen or Amber and the Mavs score. It’s a regular thing that the trio have experienced since their days in elementary when they were three sports stars in Volleyball, basketball and softball.
