Our next Profile Series subject comes from another family of athletes that include a perennial champion who played on this reporter's teams in the early 2000's and our present quarterback for The Silver and Black Attack 

I give you CC Winn Maverick Point Guard Anissa Cardona.

First of all congratulations for being selected Player Of The Week by your Coach. What can you tell our readers about last week's game and your performance? 

First and foremost I’m very humble and thankful for being selected Player of The Week. Although we didn’t end up with the results we wanted and fell short, we picked each other up and finished the game strong. 

What position do you play? What's your jersey number?

I play point guard and my number is 11 

What are your parents names? Siblings?

My parents name is Christina Cardona and  Alfonso Cardona III. I have two older brothers named Alfonso Cardona IV and Abiel Cardona 

Who do you look up to? Who are your heroes?

I look up to my Uncle Robert Sandoval because he motivates me to do anything I want in life, while having fun. He always seems to put a smile on my face and gives me advice in life. My heroes would be my parents. No words can explain how much I love them and am forever grateful for them. They are both very hardworking and shown me nothing is given in life and everything is worked for. This has shaped me into the person I am today and I thank God for my amazing parents. 

What's your career 

highlight?

My career highlight would be my highest scoring game of 26 points. It was a very intense game that went into overtime and with the help of my teammates, we came out with the dub 

Who's your favorite college team?

The Texas Longhorns 

Favorite NBA team?

My favorite NBA team is the San Antonio Spurs 

What are your first memories of playing basketball?

One of my first memories playing basketball is one night when me and my brothers were smaller, we played against each other. It was very intense and challenging, but I came out victorious and had so much fun 

"Who's your favorite athlete and why?" The sport does not matter. 

My favorite athlete is Dak Prescott because of how he can push through almost any kind of adversity to get what he sets his mind to.I love his personality and how he tries to give back to the community and help those in need. Overall, he’s an inspirational leader in so many ways. 

Offense or defense, it's up to you, give me your favorite play during a game? What is it called?

My favorite play we do during the game on offense  is called “drag”.

Why do you like this kind of play, what do you do? What's your responsibility?

It involves me bringing the ball up court and two people come to screen and I do a pick and role action with the last screener. We Then we attack the rim to score.

Any hobbies?

My favorite hobbies are playing basketball, softball, video games, baking, and almost any outdoor activity there is. 

Favorite food?

My favorite food is my Dad’s ribs he cooks outside on the grill. 

What makes a good 

teammate?

I personally believe what makes a good teammate is someone who has your back through thick and thin and you can trust them no matter the situation. They try to set a good example and push everyone. 

Talk to me about 

your Coach.

Man, there so much to say about Coach Cumpian but I’ll keep it short. From the day he got here till now, he’s pushed and has given it his 110% every single day to help us become better ball players. Last year was a tuff year ,but he has stuck with it and been patient with all of us and we’ve grown a lot. I’ve personally have also been able to create a bond with him and that’s something not everyone can have. 

What's on your playlist? (Be specific. Artist and song.)

I love almost all types of music. My playlist ranges from Ariana Grande, Drake, Bad Bunny, The Weekend, SZA, and J Cole just to name a few. My current favorite song is In The Bible by Drake. 

What advice would you give a kid playing basketball for the first time?

The advice I would give a young kid is to play your heart out and don’t give up no matter what challenges you may face or if you struggle. Just keep on trying and don’t forget to have fun. 

What do you think of when you hear our fight song?

When I hear our fight song, it mentally prepares me and hypes me up for the game.
