I give you CC Winn Lady Maverick Guard Azeneth Oyervides.
First of all congratulations for being selected Player Of The Week by your Coach. What can you tell our readers about last week's game and your performance?
Thank you sir, it was a great team effort, even though we fell short, but by the end of the day we all picked each other up, finished the game strong, and worked together to fix our mistakes.
What position do you play? What's your jersey number?
I’m a guard and my number is 5.
What are your parents names? Siblings?
My parents name is Arturo Oyervides and Josefina Oyervides, I have one sibling (Anwar Oyervides)
Who do you look up to? Who are your heroes?
I look up to my older brother because I know the advice he gives me is through his experiences and I know everything he tells me is for my benefit. My heroes are my parents because they’ve always provided for me and made me the person I am today, I am blessed to have them.
What's your
career highlight?
I think my career highlight was my sophomore year, when it was a very close game and the crowd was going wild, we were up by 2 and the other team needed to tie the game. The opposing team ended up stealing the ball the last five seconds which led to a fast break, I ran behind the girl and just as she was about to lay it up I blocked the shot and the game was over. It was a great feeling.
Who's your favorite
college team?
UConn Huskies
Favorite NBA team?
My favorite NBA team is the San Antonio Spurs
What are your first memories of playing
basketball?
My first memories for basketball was on a Thanksgiving Day when all my relatives were playing ball. Honestly that was the first time I ever touched a basketball, and ever since that night my heart has been on the court.
"Who's your favorite athlete and why?" The sport does not matter.
My favorite athlete is Kawhi Leonard, who used to play for the San Antonio Spurs. He brings a lot of respect to the game and is a very humble person. He always hits game winning shots and has great defense, he is a very quiet person who lets his game speak for himself.
Offense or defense, it's up to you, give me your favorite play during a game? What is it called?
I really like playing defense, it’s what I’m best at, my favorite play is called “diamond”.
Why do you like this kind of play, what do you do? What's your
responsibility?
I like this play because I know it puts a lot of pressure against the other team causing them to panic and loose the ball which gives us an upper hand advantage for scoring. My responsibility is avoid the ball passing half court and just hitting my spots to slow down the opposing teams game.
Any hobbies?
My favorite hobbies are playing basketball, volleyball, going fishing, hunting, and working.
Favorite food?
My favorite food is spaghetti.
What makes a
good teammate?
I believe communication along with trust plays an important role in making a good teammate. Just letting each other know that we have each other’s back on or off the court is a great team boost.
Talk to me about your Coach.
My coach is very dedicated, he can talk ball all day, the team and I trust that everything he does is for us to get better and improve. The level we are this year compared to last, was a huge jump and I’m thankful that he was patient to show us new tricks for the game and just helped be better ball players.
What's on your playlist?
I have a lot of hype songs before a game as long as a lot of slow songs like David Guetta, Adele, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5
What advice would you give a kid playing basketball for the first time?
I’d say stick with it, it’s a very fun sport, you won’t regret it.
