"We played a tie breaker to go to playoffs since we had the same record," said the volleyball coach, "We went four sets. The girls were on a mission. Our senior girls have had one thing in mind since they were freshmen-make playoffs."
"It had been seven years since our volleyball program had made it and they knew that they were the group that was going to get it done. Our underclassman knew their role as well. Our whole team just played as a team and kept fighting until we won."
At 8-8 in the first set, it was a true battle. It was a veritable and evenly matched shootout. There was no height advantage for either team.
Riley De La Garza rattled off three points in a row to put The Burnt Orange and White up 10-8, then Daisy Rivas had a dominating kill to take it to 11-9 after a successful serve by LBJ.
Rivas served and after a Lady Wolves shot went long, EPHS was up 13-9.
One of the team's leaders Paola Sessaty had a nice drop shot to put us up 16-10, but hometown heroine Shania Dunn did what she does (No pun intended), saving shots with amazing dig after incredible dig to give Sessaty and The Lady Eagles the opportunities to make kills like the one she crushed to put them within five 20-16!
The Lady Eagle front line also had some amazing blocks followed by a kill by another young lady who showed some 'Paola Power', Paola Chavarría to make the score 23-17.
Two points later Sessaty sealed the set from the left side and they take the first set 25-17 before eventually taking this match much to the crowd's approval, a crowd which included longtime volleyball fan Gracie Gonzalez, head football coach TOM Gonzalez and State Cross Country Qualifier OJ Ruiz.
"There was a large crowd cheering us on and I think that really helped us to be motivated to win," concluded Coach Jimenez, "Our underclassmen got a taste of what it feels like and I think they want to continue that legacy."
