But the man that has everyone talking and taking note of cross country is OJ Ruiz. Already being recruited by high level schools such as Texas A&M, LSU, Texas Tech, and Baylor, Ruiz is not only impressing NCAA coaches and programs, he has been turning in some low times and has been outlasting some pretty heavy competition from across the state.
According to Head Coach Mario Garcia, Ruiz went up against an elite field of 39;teams and came away with a first place finish at The Matador Invitational. OJ turned in a nice and tidy 15:57 on Saturday to seize the gold defeating his nearest opponent by six seconds.
J. Aguilar placed 17th and M. Becerra, J. Barrera, and A. Crone all placed in the Top 50 giving The Eagles a fourth place overall team finish.
In the Boys Division, New Braunfels finished first, San Antonio FEAST was second and Dripping Springs was third.
In the Girls Division, Dripping Springs was first, New Braunfels second, East Central was third, Warren fourth and Del Rio came in fifth.
