The 2021 version of The Classic, the clash between our two High Schools, took place at Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday and it was a Tale of ball-control, quick-strike offense and oh yes, special teams.

TJ Mares scored twice, from two yards out with 6:12 left in the first half and from 45 yards out 1:58 remaining in the first half.

Sir Isaac Stanwick scored first from nine yards out with 5:47 left in the first quarter, but showtime came when Dakota Kypuros farted across the field on an 86 yard kickoff return for a touchdown at the beginning of the second half.

Coach Coca Ruiz who is in charge of special teams said that they had been working on this play for a while and Head Coach Tom Gonzalez confirmed that this time ,"It worked."

The Mavericks scored on a 32 yard field goal by Almikar Ramos with 2:08 left in the third quarter and showed superior offensive line play and strong running by Abraham Rodriguez and News Gram Player Of The Week Jeremiah Robinson who reminds us of the great stand-up north-south runners like  Eddie George and Erik Dickerson.

The Eagles take on Cornerstone on Friday and The Mavs travel to Jourdanton.
