After a combination of Alan Vielma runs and former News Gram Player Of The Week Abraham Rodriguez reading the Maroon and White defense and moving the offense down the field, The Mavs would stole first on a three yard keeper to go up 6-0. The PAT was no good.
Later in the quarter Santiago Garcia made a key tackle, Armando Lechler almost picked off a Coyote pass and Jaime Barrientos stripped a ball and recovered the fumble giving The Mavs great field position.
Subsequently in the game Victor Lozano has multiple tackles some right at the line of scrimmage. DB Juan Martinez almost intercepted a Gabe Gonzalez pass, then Lechler almost picked off a Brodie Karnes pass which led to a 41 yard FG try. Gonzalez picked up the bad snap and tried to get the ball into the endzone #8 intercepts the broken pass play. This is the third Coyote turnover of the game.
Roly Jimenez scored on a 25 yard TD pass late in the first quarter.
Karnes struck on a 17 yard TD pass to make the score 13-7.
Then Rodriguez scored from nine yards out and the score was 19-7 after the missed PAT.
Uvalde had a field goal in the third quarter to make the score 19-10.
Just when you thought the momentum might be shifting towards Uvalde, Michael Hernandez intercepts a Coyote pass and takes it 80 yards for a Maverick touchdown! The two-point conversion was good to make it 27-10.
Abraham Rodriquez had a long 41 yard gainer of his own in the ensuing drive with 10:17:left in the game and he would score again to put The Mavs up 34-10.
A late interception and two point conversion later and the final would be CC Winn 34, Uvalde 18.
Abraham Rodriguez had 19 rushes for 174 yards and he went 4 for 10 passing for 124 yards. The Mavericks generated 379 total yards in this game.
