The OLOR Raiders and the Liberty Eagles squared off for the outright championship of the 2012 City of Eagle Pass Post-Season Tournament held at legendary Chelo's Field at Fort Duncan. Coach Orly Rodriguez' charges were still stinging from the regular season finale which left the Eagles on top and were looking for some payback on this day. Raiders won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. After a solid stop on the first two downs, the Liberty Eagles connected with a sound play action touchdown pass to OJ Ruiz for 40 yds. The 2 pt conversion was no good. In the second quarter, Raider Quarterback Beto Santos scrambled in the backfield and avoided a heavy Eagle blitz and connected with a wide open Raiders Wide receiver Nicolas Montemayor for an easy 25 yard touchdown catch. Again, the 2 pt conversion was no good. That kept the score 6-6 after a hard fought 1st half which displayed plenty of resilience defensively by both teams which was led mainly by Raider Captain and Safety Lazaro Villarreal and Eagle Captain and Linebacker OJ Ruiz. In the second half, Liberty Eagles struck again with 60 yard fake handoff Touchdown run.

The Eagle Pass Eagles captured the District 29-AAAAA Cross-Country Team Championship in Del Rio on Saturday and did what they are seen doing day in and day out on the streets of Eagle Pass, running together in the hot South Texas sun and finishing as a pack. The Eagles left the 9th ranked CX team in the state in their rear view mirrors as they collectively turned in five of the top ten places at the event and senior Saul Vasquez turned in a brilliant time of 15:19 to become the sixth individual district champ in Eagle Pass school history following in the footsteps of Juan Gonzalez (Vasquez' coach) in 1991, Jerry Cervantes in 1993, Chris Hurtado in 1995, Luis Beltran 2004 and Roland Cantú (Cervantes' nephew) in 2010 carrying on the tradition and once again establishing the Eagle CX program as one of the finest in the state. The News Gram Sports caught up to Jerry Cervantes, EP's '93 champ and he had the following to say about the program and his win which happened to be in adverse conditions on a very cold day here in Eagle Pass.

In yet another example of a serious vehicular accident within the local area, a local school bus filled with students at approximately 5 p.m. was rear ended by a 4-door vehicle both of which were apparently headed towards the Quemado area just ahead of Elm Creek. Fortunately the school bus was not seriously damaged and there were no apparent injuries to the young lives on the bus.
