City and County law enforcement, firemen risk life and limb to rescue flood victims

Residents were seeking higher ground, some even resorting to climbing their homes and standing on their rooftops. The terror of children standing in trees as they could only be seen when the lightning bolts flashed in the sky and the sound of thunder drowned out their pleas. The feeling of helplessness as they disappeared into the night as their parents screamed for them to hang on and that help was on the way.

A fire was reported in Ricks Subdivision at a home which belongs to a very well-known and respected family suffered a tragic accident coinciding with the severe weather as a bolt of lightning reportedly struck the home causing it to ignite in flames in the middle of the storm.

Over 3,500 people attended Commencement for CC Winn High School on Friday at the Cozel Foster-Veteran's Memorial Stadium as Valedictorian Alejandra Rodriguez, in a highly emotive and inspirational speech which gave her classmates insight on the benefits of challenging oneself, how hard work pays off, perseverance, and the need to work at the things you want to accomplish in life. The top graduate of the Class of 2013, a class near and dear to this reporter's heart and a class full of academic talent who have proved themselves in the arena of UIL Academics, Music and Athletics.
America Ruiz, the Salutatorian of the class, thanked her parents and reiterated the aforementioned sentiments by confirming that they were indeed an 'Awesome' class.
Principal Jesús Díaz-Wever reflected on goal setting and that, "Life is about choices and the fact that even though this class had obstacles, they were able to overcome them."
"La vida esta llena de oportunidades," added the Venezuelan native, proud of his heritage and always eloquently addressing our parents in his first language, before wishing Mr. Rudy Bowles a happy retirement.
Roger Villalpando impressed those gathered with an original composition he performed for the crowd and the strains of "The Victors," the Fight Song of the CC Winn Mavericks and our Alma Mater permeated the air on this magnificently cool and symbolic evening.
