In a strange turn of events, three Eagle Passans were mercilessly gunned down by a lone gunman who apparently was intervening in an argument between two females. When Alfredo Arredondo, Jr, 30, of Eagle Pass came into the picture in an attempt to defend his sister, 22 year-old Claudia Balderas, also of Eagle Pass, he was fatally shot by Rigoberto Vasquez Hernandez, 45, of Dallas.

U.S. stocks edged higher in early trading early Monday, led by technology companies, but many investors continued to focus on the quick rise in bond yields. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 21 points, or 0.1 percent, to 15,102. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 3 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1659. The technology-focused Nasdaq composite index rose 17 points, or 0.5 percent, to 3,651.

Things have only gotten worse for the leader of the nation's eighth-largest city. More than a dozen women, including a university dean and a retired Navy rear admiral, have gone public with sexual harassment accusations against Filner.
