Maverick County Commissioners Court approved an interlocal government agreement with the City of Eagle Pass regarding solid waste collecting.
During their meeting held on Thursday March 29 the court discussed the issue accepting to proceed with the agreement.
County Attorney Robert Wilson advised the court that an agreement was to be worked out with the city. “I recommend that it’s approved subject to negotiations with the city attorney,” said Wilson.
In 2017 the City began the application process with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to shut down the Municipal Landfill.
According to City Finance and Business Director Jesus Rodriguez, Jr., the application and closure process to shut down the City of Eagle Pass Municipal Landfill Type IV Permit will take approximately a year to complete with TCEQ.
The City of Eagle Pass is expected to save $273,000 annually by closing the landfill rather than maintaining it open.
The City of Eagle Pass will install and operate a Citizens Collection Station at the City’s Public Works Yard on Eidson Road to dispose of their Type
IV landfill waste such as construction debris, trees and shrubs once the City’s Radar Base Landfill is closed down.
