Dr. Paul Sorrels, Associate Provost/Dean of Rio Grande College, presents the college’s Favorite Faculty Award for 2012 to Dr. Tiffany Culver of Eagle Pass, Assistant Professor of Psychology, at the RGC’s Spring Recognition/Celebration Banquet held last Saturday in Eagle Pass.

Alpha Chi Induction Ceremony The banquet also featured the Alpha Chi induction ceremony where Dereck Albrecht, Maria Arizpe, Brenda Hernandez, and Isamar Perez were sworn in with the Alpha Chi promise to “seek the truth and it shall set you free.”
Special guests at the banquet were Jesus Sanchez, EPISD Superintendent Billy Davis, Chamber of Commerce President and Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu. Sanchez and Cantu helped pass out plaques to outgoing SGA officers and handed incoming officers Sul Ross pins to use while representing RGC.
In his address, Mayor Cantu commented on his experience as a former SGA president at Southwest Texas Junior College and being a former SGA mem- ber at RGC.

“It was an honor to take part in such an important activity because young college-level leaders may eventually take over roles in city government and other management areas,” said Cantu. “I think the SGA provides a unique opportunity for students to network with their communities’ officials and make a difference in the city they live in.”
Cantu added that his experience in governance is drawn from family roots in politics and an early interest that he honed by always participating on whatev- er campus he attended. “I loved learning how to handle complex situations and I encourage all students from elementary through college levels to take part in student government.” The banquet featured a video currently showing on Youtube that profiles the range of SGA and Student Services Department provided to local communities and student enrichment.
During the ceremonies, mem- bers of the newly formed RGC Lobos Basketball and Football teams were commended for enlisting Southwest Texas Junior College students.
