FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) —

Once a rising star among the U.S. Army's top battle commanders, Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair is now fighting sexual assault charges that could land him life in a military prison if convicted.

Sinclair, who was the deputy commander of the 82nd Airborne, was set to appear Tuesday in a Fort Bragg courtroom to face court martial on criminal charges that include physically forcing a female captain under his command to perform oral sex.

NEW YORK (AP) —

Ellen DeGeneres' celeb-studded selfie from the most-watched Oscars telecast in a decade was a landmark social media moment at a time online conversation is boosting television viewership and vice versa.

It's also a murky example of what is or isn't product placement in a hyper-marketed world. Would the world's most retweeted photo have been shot by an iPhone if Samsung hadn't been a commercial sponsor of the Academy Awards?

Every year great film- making is celebrated with merit based awards given by the people that take films most serious- ly; people that dedicate their lives to the making and dis- cussion of movies out of love for that dream projector we call big screen. The Oscars have been champi- oning movies for the past 84 years now, and while some years have been fairer then others we can always agree that the best of the best lay within their winners and even more within their nom- inees.               A Slave. It may sound likethe loosers’ anthem but every nominee is a winner. It is a shame we must place great movies against great movies because they’re all great movies. To call one better than the other depends on personal taste not crafts- manship because every sin- gle nominee carries the same amount of passion for cine- ma as the winner, they just happen to present it in a dif- ferent way. It’s like crown- ing apples as the best fruits; orange fans may disagree with that opinion. I recom- mend you watch all of the nominees if you get the chance and choose which film is the best of the years to you.
