Since arriving into our community the DPS agents have been assisting in vigilance role alongside U.S. Border Patrol , U.S Customs and Border Protection, and local law enforcement.
There are over 250 DPS agents who are being deployed back to their regular posts but will be on call due to the ongoing situation being seen from the humanitarian / security crisis at the border.
Maverick County Judge David Saucedo said state officials told him that at least half of the state troopers will return to their cities by the end of the week.
At this point, National Guard and U.S. Army troops have arrived into the area and will be conducting operations to assist with border security in numerous roles.
Judge Saucedo stated that talks continue to see if the county will work out some kind of deal to provide the land needed for military personnel to set up command centers and facilities for its troops who could be stationed in the area up to a year,
The county is proposing two sites including the Radar Base area which is about 12 miles North of Eagle Pass, or the Caballo Dorado arena in the Pueblo Nuevo Sector of the community.
