In two strokes of fate and luck, two local residents have been awarded $500 gift cards in one day at Ashley Furniture.
Ashley graciously donated a $500.00 prize in the annual St. Joseph's Raffle among many other community oriented events in which the company goes the extra mile for its customers in both Eagle Pass and Del Rio.
Ashley General Manager Ryan Ricks informed The News Gram that he is happy to inform the general public of the good fortune of two Ashley Furniture customers who will get to put these certificates to good use.
On June 22nd 2012, at approximately 11:24 p.m., Deputies from the Maverick County Sherriff’s Office, responded to a call in reference to a man with a knife. Deputies arrived at the scene and assisted the victim who was crouched down on the curb on his knees with a stab wound to the stomach.
An ambulance was summoned to the scene to treat the victim who was identified as Seferino Barrera from 4031 Landin Circle.
The suspect being his step son who was identified as Adan Roman Guerrero and was subsequently arrested at the scene. Mr. Guerrero was charged with aggravated assault/family violence and is awaiting to be magistrated at the Tom Bowles Detention Center.
A female suspect who was also at the scene was also taken into custody for tampering with evidence. The female suspect was identified as Maria Barrera De Maya who also resides at 4031 Landin Circle. Mrs. De Maya is the mother of the suspect in this case. Mrs. De Maya is also awaiting to be magistrated by a Justice of the Peace.
A new eatery has established itself in Eagle Pass offering our town the indulgence of freshly baked donuts, pastries and delicious coffee to get the day started off on the right foot. The Smile Donut Shop located at 1874 Garrison Street will be open 7 days a week for your breakfast needs offering a wide variety of treats on their menu including a delicious sausage/jalapeno kolach (a savory sausage link wrapped in fluffy pastry and jalapeno to add a kick), donuts in an a assortment of flavors, croissant breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos as well as a variety of beverages including gourmet coffee.
EPFD Fire Chief, Jesús Rodriguez informed The News Gram that he is working on petitioning administration to purchase a tower which will be used to train his men to enter tall buildings as well as other necessary training equipment.
Eagle Pass City Council did not take action on the incorporation of cameras on traffic lights with a private company who will be in charge of installing said cameras at all major intersections in order for motorists to have a heightened sense of care when driving on Eagle Pass streets. Anyone caught breaking the law and caught by this technology, would subsequently be fined for these infractions with a
letter sent directly to their home.
Chief of Police Tony Castañeda informed The News Gram that City Council considered that more information was needed before they approve the installation of said technology from this company who will be taking a percentage of any and all fines collected by the use of this system.
The issue will be considered in the future, but as of now, the City expects that the private company could give a demonstration of the function of the cameras, which are presently in use in many large cities across the US.
