Precinct 4 and never completed said project, to post bail on charges being brought forth against him by the federal government.

The Department of Justice informed The News Gram that four of the five people convicted in the gasoline fraud cases against the City of eagle Pass have pleaded guilty on at least one of the multiple charges against them as they await their next day in court for sentencing April 15th.
Project COMPANION raises money and awareness on the importance of controlling animal overpopulation.
In an effort to decrease the incidence of animal overpopulation within the city, Project COMPANION will host a Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic in February.

A very important topic is being promoted by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce in that, due to the sudden finding of petroleum in our general vicinity, the COC has made contact with a company which can help landowners determine if in fact oil or natural gas can be found on their properties. In Dimmitt and La Salle Counties, there is a veritable boom of both petroleum and natural gas have been in progress for quite some time now, and these natural resources may extend into Maverick County. Sandra Martinez of the Chamber of Commerce, informed The News Gram that the company will be making a presentation on December 19th at 8:00 A.M. at a restaurant on Bibb St. These experts will touch on the benefits and aspects of finding these resources and the disadvantages of having oil and natural gas and the possibilities of signing contracts with these major corporations. In Eagle Pass, Texas, Maverick County Probation Officer and general contractor Javier Gonzalez was arrested after a federal grand jury in Del Rio indicted him earlier today in connection with an alleged bribery, kickback and bid-rigging scheme announced United States Attorney Robert Pitman and FBI Special Agent in Charge Armando Fernandez. The federal grand jury indictment charges the 42-year-old Eagle Pass resident with one count each of paying a bribe to an agent of an organization receiving federal funds and wire fraud. According to the indictment, in May 2011, Gonzalez submitted a $35,100 bid to Maverick County to build a sidewalk on Lago Vista Street in Precinct 4. Subsequently, Maverick County issued two separate checks totaling $35,100 to Gonzalez—the first on May 24, 2011, for $13,050 to commence work on the project; the second on May 26, 2011, for $22,050 for the completion of the sidewalk.

As the family members of Jaime Moreno attempt to put together their sentiments and their lives after the sudden suicide of the patriarch of their family yesterday afternoon, it leaves all involved with the question of why one would take such a definitive measure to avoid problems during what is now the holiday season. Moreno, who until recently worked at the GEO prison, had been experiencing problems we all may have to face in terms of family, work and providing for himself and his loved ones. It is during these times, law enforcement officials say, that these types of situations come to light and people take extreme measures to avoid facing life's problems.

Four schools were on lockdown after law enforcement officials were called to the San Juan Street area for an attempted suicide. What would eventually be a 4 hour standoff between local law enforcement and the obviously troubled man, culminated when the man shot himself in the chest area with a .38 caliber weapon.
Paint The Town Project celebrated their 109th event on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Maverick County Lake. There were over 45 volunteers who continue the group's ongoing efforts of eliminating unsightly graffiti taggings as well as retouching parts of the fencing as needed. Student volunteers came from Sul Ross Rio Grande College, Eagle Pass and C.C. Winn High Schools, Memorial and Eagle Pass Junior High Schools. Students also came from elementary campuses which included Liberty, Benavides, Cerna, Robert E Lee, and Reedemer Episcopal School. In addition, there were several Girl Scout troops, as well as parent volunteers, and also helping was a volunteer from the U.S. Navy. This was the final event for U.S. Border Patrol Community Liaison Agent Yamilka Patterson. For the past two years through her hard work has succeeded in recruiting and organizing event benefiting the entire community. The volunteers thanked her with a cake and wished her well, as she continues with the U.S. Border Patrol in a different capacity. City of Eagle Pass Administration has informed The News Gram that Marga Lopez, Director of the International Bridge System has effectively resigned from the position she has held for many years. Lopez turned in her letter of resignation weeks ago according to reports. Her last day will be December 18th. Lopez has worked for the city for seven years where she worked in the office of Economic Development under the late Chad Foster, then she became Interim City Manager and then in 2007, she was named Director of the International Bridge System during the administration of Glen Starnes, then City Manager. Gloria Barrientos, who now holds the position vacated by Daniel Valenzuela, informed The News Gram that her replacement will be Mario Diaz who presently works in the Finance Department as the interim director of said department. He also turned in his letter of resignation in order to be able to take the new job.

The traditional Christmas light ceremony was held at San Juan Plaza on Friday accompanied by Santa Claus and the winners of the essay contest held by the City of Eagle Pass in which three local elementary students were awarded the honor of reading their winning essays before the gathering on a cool autumn evening at one of the original places to enjoy a family outing in our fair city, and it is fitting and proper that we initiate this festive time of the year here year after year. The honorable Ramsey English-Cantú was on hand to oversee the festivities along with his staff of Jorge Sanchez, Parks and Recreation Director, Rosy Aguirre, Assistant Directress, Councilwoman Azalea Cazares and The Honorable Ricardo Santana, Mexican Consulate. The Plaza will remain alight until the first days of January.
