Tejano music star Michael Salgado was on hand to meet and greet fans on Thursday at HEB which culminated the CarneSazo promotion as Unit Director Andy Perales, 2nd Unit Director Victor Garcia and the friendly staff at the local grocery store welcomed the many visitors.
Salgado is presently promoting his latest single, a duet with Diana Reyes entitled "Ya no te puedo amar" on Zurdo Records, in banda format. Salgado is remembered for his hits "Sin ella" and "Cruz de madera."
A table was set up at the front of the store where patrons stood in a relatively long line at 4:00 where they withstood a two-hour wait before they could get an autographed picture of Salgado, snap a quick photo and then proceed out of the store to be greeted with a couple of free carne asada tacos prepared with the traditional Eagle Pass flair as Juan Delgado, Edel Hernandez, Celeste Martinez, Nick Ancira and Karina Bailón prepared the meat.
All in all it was a highly successful promotion and according to both employees and patrons alike, we can only hope it won't be the last CarneSazo at your local HEB.

When the Eagle Pass Eagles of 1955 hit the field before their first game, which was Cozel Foster's first at the helm of the fledgling program which hadn't experienced much success in high school football at the time, they may have not been the best athletes in South Texas, but Foster made them think they were.
They were going to fight to destroy the will of their opponent and were going to wear them down in the process because that's what Coach Foster's teams did and did well, will themselves to victory and leaving bigger, faster teams gasping for air when they would collectively raise four fingers in the air symbolizing that this game was not over yet, by no stretch of the imagination.

The case of two missing siblings continues as the two girls, Edna Mayline Perez, 9, and her sister Dafne Perez, 7, who were last seen around noon Wednesday playing at a park near their home on the 600 block of Adams St., may have been seen in Piedras Negras according to Sergeant Orlando Escareño.
"The latest is that we have a lady who is stating that she may have seen the girls with their mother in Piedras Negras, but Mexican authorities are following up on this report," stated Escareño.
When asked if we had jurisdiction in our neighboring country, Escareño said that the only agency that has such jurisdiction would be the FBI as an agreement exists between the United States and Mexico.
On this side of the border, authorities are scanning any and all video surveillance equipment on both international bridges to see if they can be seen on video footage, but there have been no positive ID's as of yet.
The case remains under investigation.

"They arrived in Eagle Pass in 1955 to a class 2-A high school with less than 80 kids in the graduating class and still see Eagle Pass as one community who now just happens to have two high schools with a total population of around 4,000 students," added Kirchner, one of Foster's former players who invites all former Eagles who played under Coach to attend.
The event has added a reunion of sorts for any and all alumni, EPHS or CC Winn who want to attend this momentous occasion. On Thursday, June 27 from 5:00-7:15 PM the committee will be will be registering alumni and collecting contact information at the EPISD Fine Arts Center.

24 year-old Gustavo Rodriguez Costilla, one of 132 prisoners who escaped from the CERESO in Piedras Negras on September 17, 2012, was apprehended by US Marshals on Friday and is currently being detained at a federal detention center.
The prisoner, who may have ties to the Zeta drug cartel in Mexico, was initially arrested on weapons charges before his eventual escape from the state prison late last year.
It was speculated that the cartel may have orchestrated the escape in order to free members who were being held in the facility in the midst of an all out war between the government and the cartel which turned extremely violent in clashes on the city's streets in November and early December.
According to reports, the escapee was found in a local residence and may have been hiding in a closet deep within the residence.
The prisoner remains a US Marshal prisoner being held until further notice and the case remains under investigation.

EAGLE PASS - Radio Manantial and KEPI, two local Christian radio stations are accepting donations for flood victims in Eagle Pass and Piedres Negras, Mexico.
For the past week, Radio Manantial has accepted donations and distributed supplies to many families in need. As organizations such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army along with local government attend to the need here in the States, there is still a very serious need in Piedres Negras.
“With the size of this disaster, many families lost their home. They lack the basics such as clean water, food and clothing.”, said Arron Daniels, Disaster Relief Services for World Radio Network. “As followers of Jesus, we want to take care of our brothers and sisters as well as give others the opportunity to be a blessing.”
"We're helping on both sides of the border,"added Daniels in an exclusive interview with the News Gram, "Because we see a suffering people, not borders, Jesus said, 'Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ therefore, please help, because we do have the ability to get supplies across the border and into the hands of people who need it."
Radio Manantial is currently accepting donations of bottled water, canned food, nutrition bars, baby wipes, diapers, baby formula, cleaning supplies, gently used clean clothing and toiletries. You can drop off donations at the studio located at 2477 El Indio Hwy., M-F from 7am to 6pm, Saturday from 12-5pm and Sunday from 2-5pm. They will also accept cash donations which will be used to purchase needed supplies.
“It’s been great seeing the outpouring of kindness and compassion from this community.”, said Daniels. “There is no doubt that Eagle Pass cares deeply for it’s citizens and its friends across the border.”
For more information on how you can get involved, call Radio Manantial at 830-757-0887.

The local branch of Border Federal Credit Union is also doing their part to reach out to local residents adversely affected by the recent flooding in our area by setting up an account for monetary donations, yet the three-pronged approach they are taking is unique in itself as Ruben Lopez, Branch Manager and County Commissioner of Precinct 4, Roberto Ruiz were on hand to inform the public at a press conference held on Monday.
"BFCU has opted to create an account of its own and that account is #569490-05 and funds will be distributed directly to those affected," stated Ruiz, "They are also taking donations of backpacks, pillows, blankets, bleach, cereal, non-perishable can foods, general hygiene supplies, toilet paper, trash bags, sanitary napkins, pots and pans which can be accepted at the local branch at 2080 N. Veterans Blvd."
Another facet of this assistance is that of a special Special Flood Disaster Relief Loan with a 5.99% APR with the first payment due in 60 days and a term of up to 18 months.
Finally BFCU members can receive a deferment for up to two months of their consumer loan payment, but the member must reside in an area/zone affected by the flood.
For more information you can contact Mr. Lopez at 830-757-2328 or visit http://www.borderfcu.com.
