Police authorities in Houston, Texas have located Eduardo Alejandro Cruz Rodriguez, the three year old child abducted last week in Eagle Pass. The child was reported missing on Friday afternoon, and authorities are still looking for a 45 year old man identified as "Chuy". According to state media, the Amber Alert issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety was canceled after the child Eduardo Alejandro Cruz Rodriguez was located 337 miles away from where he was reported missing. Authorities did not disclose how the child was located, only that he was in police custody and that the search continues for the man accused of taking him. The child was taken from his home last Friday. State officials have only identified the man as "Chuy" a Hispanic who is allegedly driving a white Dodge Durango. Authorities did not disclose what the subject's relationship is with the child. The Amber Alert, issued last Friday was canceled at about 3 in the morning when the child was located in Houston. The child was in police custody and was handed over to his family.

Maverick County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a settlement with Asphalt & Fuel Supply Company, LLC and will pay only half of the debt owed and thus avoid going to trial for the debt. The issue was discussed in executive session, where County Attorney Ricardo Ramos advised them of the conditions that the company filed in District Court against the administration of Maverick County. Asphalt & Fuel Supply, LLC, is one of several companies that Maverick County, owes money for services rendered over a number of years that have not been covered. According to information released, the county owes approximately $24,000 to the company in unpaid invoices. "I think it's a good deal and we were glad we were able reach an amicable solution," stated County Commissioner Roberto Ruiz.

The Sheriff's Department Maverick County awaits the results of the autopsy on the body of Noah González Rodríguez in order to know the causes of his death while he was in police custody. In a recent interview with Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, he informed The News Gram that the young man had been arrested when he was found in possession of a minor amount of marijuana after being stopped for a traffic violation for reckless driving. The 25 year-old man was fine according to the sheriff when he was apprehended except for showing signs of intoxication, when he began showing signs of distress, officials called an ambulance at about 3 in the morning and while in the hospital Rodriguez died. The Sheriff Department's report attributed the death to medical complications, however, a family member informed the sheriff that he may have taken anti-anxiety medication some time that evening. Justice of the Peace Dora Madera, who pronounced him dead, requested an autopsy on the body to determine the causes of his death.

County Commissioner Gerardo Morales informed Commissioner's Court of the fact that Comfort Inn & Suites has expressed a desire to construct a new fence which would be adjacent to their property as well as at the entrance of Maverick County Lake. The new business is even willing to allow the county to choose the material which will be utilized by them to construct the fence either from cedar or iron. Whichever would definitely improve the aesthetics of the lake. The only request they have is that Maverick County take charge of removing the existing cyclone fence which has been there for several decades.
A special meeting of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority where the only item on the agenda was to name an interim director. Board Chairperson Ana Gonzalez stepped down temporarily to nominate Eliza Cano with one condition that her employment be secured with the naming of a permanent Executive Director, before stepping down temporarily to nominate Cano, Interim Executive Director for the Eagle Pass Housing Authority. Commissioner Ricardo Calderon questioned the appointment, the prospective employee's salary and even the appointee's level of education as Gonzalez intervened several times to attempt to divert the line of questioning clarifying that this is a situation where the appointee's level of experience suffices to step in temporarily. Gonzalez addressed Calderon's concern for the amount of her salary by stating that she would like for Cano to be compensated for her duties at the end of her interim period. Commissioner Jose Gonzalez took over temporarily and called for a second which was made by Commissioner Pete Venegas. "Are you willing to accept the position at your current rate of pay," asked Calderon to which Cano replied, "Yes Sir." The board voted 4-0 to accept the nomination with Calderon choosing to abstain. Next on the agenda was to open advertising for the position which the board unanimously voted to be placed at the Texas Workforce Commission, The San Antonio Express-News and in the local newspaper.

Oresmo Anico, Assistant General Manager of the KLEC handed over the keys to Evans' newest addition to her garage. Many gathered within the new facilities at the casino in hopes their names would be called. In the next few days the new and improved Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Hotel & Casino will be opening its doors with new bars and restaurants such as the Sage Steakhouse, the Que Pasa Lounge, and the new High Limit Bar. The Board of Directors of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority made a bold move in ousting Executive Director Carla Mancha at their Regular Board Meeting held on Thursday. Mancha addressed the board as a citizen when she may have spoken as the Executive Director before the meeting began, "I address the board now as I may not be able to do so later in this meeting," said Mancha during the citizen's communications portion of the meeting, "We have had complete financial transparency, no funds are missing and there is no fraud as in previous administrations. Anything positive does not fit with this board (Referring to the fact that she was to be publicly commended by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and one of their directors was even planning on attending personally). I was evaluated in March and again today. We have one new board member and micro management of Madame Chair. I have used my administrative discretion.

The Board of Directors of the Eagle Pass Housing Authority made a bold move in ousting Executive Director Carla Y. Mancha at their Regular Board Meeting held on Thursday.
After going into executive session for over an hour and forty five minutes to discuss legal matters, the board reconvened at 8:21 P.M. to open a review of Mancha's contract when board member Ricardo Calderon moved for the board not to take action on this item at this time which died on the floor for lack of a second.

The Special Meeting of Commissioner's Court turned into a veritable financial backlash of epic proportions as Independent Auditor Milo Martinez had the court's complete attention as he more than once exposed holes that riddle the county's 2011 and impending 2012 audits which can only leave those in attendance wondering what went terribly wrong in the past few years as far as accountability is concerned. "In 2010 and 2011 payables were just totally out of control," stated Martinez who hit the county with a bill for $205,000.00 for their independent auditing services, "A lot of this has shrunk down, but the problem is you can't figure out the payables.

Antonio Perea, P.E., Del Rio Area Engineer for the Texas Department of Public Safety, has informed The News Gram of the fact that they have reached a milestone in the project right at the end of the fiscal year as they too are putting the finishing touches on their 2013-2014 budget. "TxDoT is ending the fiscal year with the El Indio Hwy Overpass at almost 50% completion," stated Perea who is overseeing this project. Anderson Columbia, the General Contractor for th El Indio Hwy Overpass will have completed bent 3 located on the west side of the railroad tracks reaching this important milestone on this TxDoT project. Five steel girders have been installed with four more to be placed on the structure within the next week.
