The 2014 Relay for Life event was held on Friday at San Juan Plaza which is one of the community's biggest efforts to raise funds for cancer research.
Businesses, organizations, schools and sports teams converged on the plaza to walk or run their laps around the plaza, fulfilling their commitment to this worthy cause.
Paint The Town's 8th Anniversary Celebration took place on Saturday, April 5th, 2014, at the Nick Carr Sports Complex in Loma Bonita.
This was the 124th event in the organization's history. Diana Sanchez was presented with a city proclamation by Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu. Also present were Commissioner Robert Ruiz and Hellen Martinez representing Senator Carlos Uresti.
The non-profit organization has been instrumental in the beautification and the upkeep of many of our fair cities eyesores such as walls that have been marked with graffiti or other types of vandalism.

Local contractor Nicandro Diaz, 62 years of age, was arrested by Maverick County Sheriff's Department officials on seven counts of theft.
Diaz was arrested on Monday and has since posted bond. He awaits his trial date which as of yet has not been set.

Dr. Cleo, la mascota de Molina Healthcare, estuvo presente la semana pasada visitando y trabajando con los niños del Centro de Minas de la Comunidad de Seco para enseñarles acerca de la higiene dental y la importancia de cepillarse los dientes todos los días.

His name is Paulo Alcozer. He is now an undefeated pro MMA fighter. Paulo currently has his own gym, Kumo Fitness, where he gives fitness classes, coaches and trains fighter's as well as training himself.
Paulo began his training about 7 years ago at Martinez MMA under sifu Juan Andres Martinez, also here in Eagle Pass. While under Team Martinez Alcozer began his MMA amature career.

Eagle Pass ISD's four secondary schools have come together to present four different act plays as part of UIL's One-Act program. The plays will be presented starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 08, at the EPISD Sports and Fine Arts Complex.
Admission is $5 to view all four plays and may be purchased from company members from all four schools or at the door.
EPJH will present their play "To Burn A Witch," which won third place at the United ISD Division I UIL One Act Play Contest earlier this year. Their play is directed by Myrna Almaguer.

Mr. Tony Ramos is providing the community with a service which other entities charge a large amount for, classes for diabetes patients.
Seeing that this disorder is one that is very prevalent in our culture, it is imperative for those who have the condition to educate themselves not only in the aspect of proper nutrition, but with respect to prevention of future complications, because Ramos says, "People don't die from diabetes itself, but rather from the complications that arise if one doesn't take care of themselves."

The Workforce Center is also accepting applications for summer employment for high school seniors who wish to work after school or on the weekends, stated Jose Faz of the Workforce Center.
They will be offering temporary jobs for students who will be accommodated in both public and private offices in the community.
The goal is for the high school graduates to become economically independent before they continue their college studies in order to have resources and to gain work experience creating references for future work.
