Cuando Roberto Gómez se  ocupó de las inundaciones en junio de 2013, fue debido a las lluvias torrenciales que el condado de Maverick experimentó entonces (Condado de Maverick tuvieron 17 " ese día).

In a morbid turn of events, a 35 year-old man took it upon himself to allegedly kill his two teenaged children before setting his home on fire and taking his own life in our neighboring city of Carrizo Springs Thursday while his wife was at work.

According to sources Andy Briseño, 35, who according to local authorities is a law enforcement officer in nearby Crystal City, took the life of his 15 year-old son Andy Jr. and 13 year-old daughter Adira before setting their mobile home ablaze and turning the murder weapon on himself as fire department officials were called to the corner of 7th and Houston St. in Carrizo at 2:30 PM where they extinguished the fire and found three people dead inside the home.

Down due to Rising Waters

Almost exactly one year after the flooding of June 2013, Mother Nature has unleashed her fury once again, this time on the nearby towns of Quemado and Normandy.

As News Gram cameras began to approach the southernmost affected area adjacent to where creeks and possibly canals had overflowed due to approximately 7" of rain which fell on Wednesday night and early Thursday, Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber informed us on Thursday evening that the byway had been closed to and from Del Rio.

Officers were stationed at strategic places along the road such as at the corner of Thompson Road, at the corner of FM 131 and as far as Normandy.

Livestock could be seen knee-deep in water, the speed and movement of the current was impressive, Border Patrol, DPS and MCSO personnel were busy diverting traffic, yet there were still many vehicles traveling to and from the site.  We may have even witnessed the apprehension of a group of illegal aliens who were housed in an abandoned building who may have been stranded due to the rising flood waters.

When we arrived to water's edge, it definitely was a sight to behold.  The rushing waters were almost completely covering the roofs of the four rest areas adjacent to FM 1666!

Fire Chiefs Jesus Rodriguez and Sonny Mello along with Fire Marshal Rodolfo Cardona arrived to assess the situation, and as you can see in the photos, there was a significant amount of overflow and there were still storm clouds hanging overhead.

Workers from the Maverick County Road & Bridge Department could also be seen in the area assisting in any way they could.

Violence in Iraq is helping to make gasoline in the U.S. more expensive, depriving drivers of the usual price break between Memorial Day and July Fourth.

Global oil prices have risen 5 percent since an insurgency took over two Iraqi cities. Any sustained increase in oil and gasoline prices can damp economic growth.

In the U.S., the average price of $3.68 per gallon is the highest price for this time of year since 2008, the year gasoline hit its all-time high. The good news is that gasoline is not likely to spike above $4 as it did 6 years ago, experts say. Or even cross $3.90, as in 2011 and 2012.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge Thursday rejected an urgent request by Shelly Sterling's attorney asking that her husband Donald Sterling and his lawyers be ordered to stop harassing her legal team and doctors in their dispute over the planned sale of the Los Angeles Clippers.

A petition filed by Shelly Sterling's attorneys quoted allegedly threatening remarks made by Donald Sterling in phone calls and a letter sent by his lawyer to two doctors who declared him mentally incapacitated.

Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas said the matter may involve "high emotions and some litigation posturing" and urged both parties to tone down their communications.
