In recognition of "National Recovery Month" the Serving Children and Adults in Need agency (SCAN) through the city of Eagle Pass, are preparing a series of activities that began today with the reading of a proclamation.
Karina Martinez, who is in charge of the program in Eagle Pass, informed The News Gram that the reading of the proclamation which was scheduled at 10:00 am Thursday at City Hall would be made by The Honorable Ramsey E. Cantu.
He noted that the reading of the proclamation of "National Recovery Month" the agency Serving Children and Adults in Need will be very beneficial for those citizens who need the assistance the most, those with problems with drug and alcohol addiction.
He explained that the SCAN Program serves people with alcohol and other substances, and they are supported with addiction prevention program for children, youth and adults.
Dr. Kypuros is UMC's newest pediatrician

The Eagle Pass News Gram caught up with Dr. Kristina Kypuros, M.D. who, for the next three months will be serving the community of Eagle Pass at the United Medical Center.
Dr. Kypuros returns to her native Eagle Pass after garnering invaluable experience across the country such as the UT Health Science Center, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and even UCLA MAttel Children's in Los Angeles California.

One person was killed and five injured in the total destruction of a building Inspection of Foreign Trade, dozens of businesses affected eight damaged vehicles and hundreds of evacuees was the outcome of an explosion yesterday at an office building in Piedras Negras, presumably due to a leak in a natural gas line.
Ana Griselda Vasquez Duque, 28, who served as a Foreign Trade Official, died while being attended to injuries she sustained, as part of a wall fell on her body during the confusion caused by the blast which occurred at approximately 7:30 AM.

Officers assigned to the Eagle Pass Police Patrol and Traffic Divisions responded to the intersection of Mathiwos Drive and El Indio Highway at 3:00 PM in regards to a motor vehicle accident.
Officers were informed one of the vehicles involved was fleeing the scene in a red colored vehicle.
Responding officers arrived and immediately checked the status of the remaining driver who refused medical attention.
Officers were informed that the red vehicle which fled the scene collided with a second vehicle upon fleeing.

Un accidente al medio día en la esquina de Bibb y del Norte Veteranos Blvd. causó que un ambulancia y unidades policiales respondieran de inmediato.
Policía de Eagle Pass estuvieron presentes para dirigir el tráfico ya que los vehículos estaban en el carril de giro a la izquierda que viaja hacia el sur.
Al cierre de esta edición, ninguna versión oficial fue dado ya sea por el Departamento de Policía de Eagle Pass que inicialmente estaban manejando el accidente, ni por el Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas que no pudo ser contactado para hacer comentarios para un informe del accidente.
Según testigos, un Ford Sport Trac, verde fue golpeado por detrás por un Chevy Tahoe blanco y negro del Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas
Parecía haber dos pasajeros en el Sport-Trac, el piloto y un pasajero y dos troopers del DPS estaban en el Tahoe en el momento del accidente.
El accidente parece ser un caso de que la conductora vió el oficial detrás de ella y con el fin de evitar recibir una infracción por pasarse una luz roja o amarilla, dudó en pasarse el samáforo. La conductora de la pick-up frenó de repente en la intersección no dando al vehículo del oficial del DPS suficiente espacio y menos tiempo de reacción necesario para parar antes de impactar seriamente .
Según EPPD Oficial de Información Pública Humberto O. Garza, el accidente está bajo investigación por el supervisor de turno del DPS, ya que se considera un “accidente flota’.

Maverick County deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Boulder Ridge and Calle Nicolas Monday, August 25 at approximately 8:00 AM, after receiving reports that an Eagle Pass ISD school bus had been struck by a pickup exiting a residence.

Public Information Officer for the Eagle Pass Police Department, Humberto O. Garza, informed The News Gram of a relatively incident-free first day of classes on Monday, however he did point out that problems were seen at various campuses such as LDC where parents parked in illegal zones and some were given infractions for doing so.
At Kennedy Hall, cars parked on Bonnet Avenue caused traffic bottle necks and problems there while at ECC Clarkson and the vehicles who park there also are the cause of only one vehicle being able to travel either east or west on Clarkson.

The Maverick County Hospital District held a special public hearing to finalize their 2014-15 budget process and only one individual expressed his concern with the upcoming proceedings which may include a slight increase in tax rate stating that as long as the MCHD continues to provide the invaluable services and indigent care they provide now, he has no qualms with having to pay a penny more in taxes.
County units were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident on US Highway 277 Monday, approximately 10 miles out of Eagle Pass. Deputies arrived to make contact with the driver of a white Ford F-150, who stated that he felt his vehicle was pulling to the right and lost control when he attempted to readjust the pickup. The pickup rolled over once and was found to be upside down when units arrived at the scene. The driver refused further medical attention at the time of the incident. The Texas Department of Public Safety has taken over the investigation.
