Maverick County Road & Bridge Director Ernesto Guevara informed The News Gram that he and his crews are busy working on road improvement projects in and around the Deer Run area as they were seen paving Buck Street.
Heavy machinery was laying a fine tar-based asphalt on the roadway as residents were asked to be careful in the work area as the $30,000+ project was clearly underway on this beautiful winter day.
“This street consists of 1,200 feet of pavement which we are doing with a paver, a pneumatic roller and a steel roller, Sir, which we are completing with material which arrived last week from Uvalde," said the Road & Bridge Superintendent.
"We may have some delays on future projects in the area as we are expecting rain this weekend, however we will address at least three streets in this area before moving on to other important projects across the county," stated Guevara who was supervising the work and his crews.
"We will also be working on Black Tail and one other street in this precinct before we move on to other projects."

In a phone interview from the state capital, Maverick County Legal Counsel Alfonso Nevarez weighed in on the pressing issue of the subsequent ousting and replacement of Southwestern Capital Marketing as the official financial advisors for Maverick County.
"Both SCM and the auditor are incorrect about money that is owed to Maverick County," Nevarez said, "SCM might owe the county $10 to $15 thousand, but $192,000.00 is incorrect and then past that, we wouldn't like to comment further."
Nevarez says that Maverick County actually stopped paying Robert G. Rodriguez their monthly retainer for about a year, "But based on nuances regarding what happened when, we can't comment on that at this time."

When 'Open Carry' fanatics cornered and attacked State Representative Alfonso Nevarez on the day of his swearing in, they were doing so to bring light to their cause, but I don't think they were counting on getting negative press for House Bill 195, at least not the reaction that lawmakers and supporters of the Democrat from Eagle Pass have shown in response.
On Wednesday, a number of state representatives showed solidarity and support for Nevarez by wearing "I'm Poncho" stickers to show that they are in favor of the latest measures to provide security for legislators which now include panic buttons in their offices.
Several of Nevarez' colleagues are questioning the fears some of them and their staff are feeling citing that no one should be threatened with physical force as the most fanatical of the activists kept doing on his way out of Nevarez' office that day.
The stickers were made after Nevarez jokingly told his colleagues to wear "I'm Not Poncho" signs for their personal safety.
Representative Drew Springer of Gainsville can be seen here wearing his 'I'm Poncho' sticker proudly.
In Texas, you can openly carry rifles, but it has been illegal to do so with a handgun for over 125 years.
The new HB 195 authored by Rep. Jonathan Strickland, would allow Texans to carry handguns without a license.
Since the incident the Texas Department of Public Safety is providing Nevarez with an escort as an extra security measure.
