Brawl mars exciting District 29-AAAAA football game late

The Eagle Pass Eagles squared off in a showdown for the ages as they both bolted out to a 16-16 tie at the half after the Longhorns won the toss and elected to receive to only gain three in their opening possession and proceeded to three and out giving the Eagles the ball on the 43. DeShawn Franklin broke off a significant run which took him deep into Longhorn territory to the one yard line, however a holding call brought the play back. The Eagles would not be denied on this night and they fought their way back to the on where Ty Chisum was able to haul it in for the initial Eagle score, but it would be called back by the officials for illegal procedure. Chisum then handed off to Franklin who headed for the right side of the United Defense when he handed it off to RJ Ruiz who showed some passing skills hitting Chisum in the end zone for the third Eagle TD, but this TOO was called back on a personal foul and brought back to the 16 yet again.

A large amount of law enforcement officers in attendance along with city officials, department heads, city employees were all on time and eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the new Chief of Police for the Eagle Pass Police Department. The process which took approximately one month after opening the position, screening applicants and the conducting of interviews culminated Friday morning when City Manager Gloria Barrientos took the podium at City Hall to announce the hiring of Detective Albert Guajardo as the new man who will move forward as the head of the department.

Homecoming activities came to a close on Friday with the coronation of Homecoming Court. All the candidates were dressed in formal attire and the expectation was grand as to who was going to be crowned on this evening. Last year's Queen and King Suzel Figueroa and Oscar Lara were on hand to give up their crowns in their last act as CC Winn Mavericks. When it was all said and done after a week of voting the PA announcer made it known who the big winners were: Representing the Maverick Football Team, Stephanie Nicole Borja and George Andrade were crowned Lord and Lady.
