Gunman detained with pistol and 250 rounds of ammo

Eagle Pass Police arrested a man in possession of a 9 mm. handgun, two clips and 250 rounds of ammunition which he was unable to justify. The man was taken into custody, the gun confiscated and he was referred to a mental hospital in San Antonio. According to the report, that incident occurred on Saturday at noon when authorities were made aware of a situation in the Westlakes subdivision which alarmed a young woman who was giving the man hospice in her home, yet noticed that the individual was acting suspiciously and it was concerting. He was found with a 9 mm. handgun, two ammunition clips and 250 shells of ammunition. The man was of Afro-American decent, was until recently an employee off a local grocery store, was approximately 20 years of age and had lost this job not too long ago. He was arrested without incident. The woman stated that she has known the man for some years now, allowed him to stay with her because he did not have a place to stay, it was not known if she will continue to provide hospice to the man. The gun was confiscated by authorities and the case remains under investigation.
$30,000.00 invested in Lewis Estates Park

A significant investment of $30,000.00 will be invested into the Lewis Estates Park which will be constructed by next year.
Ribbon cutting for the park occurred on Wednesday along with first graders from Mancha Elementary.
According to information from Jorge Sanchez, the swings were provided to the city through a Federal Grant with funds provided by the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. The amount of said grant was $15,000.00.
The play area will have the same special lining which will break the falls of children playing there much like the one located at Ft. Duncan Park.
The park will have a walking track, a basketball court, a children's play area and a garden.
The Grand Opening and ribbon cutting was held with local dignitaries present.
Sanchez added that he hopes to have more parks around the city for residents to enjoy.
They are presently working on adding lighting to the baseball parks in the Fort Duncan area.
Sentencing in gasoline fraud cases to be held April 15th

The Department of Justice informed The News Gram that four of the five people convicted in the gasoline fraud cases against the City of eagle Pass have pleaded guilty on at least one of the multiple charges against them as they await their next day in court for sentencing April 15th.
