Police officers fired on a youth from the Rosita Valley area who put the lives of two officers in danger as he nearly ran them over in a Chevy Suburban.

The young man identified as Victor Rivas, 18, was not injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday at midnight at the parking lot of the McDonald's in the Seco Mines area where officers responded to a report of a youth who was over aggressive with restaurant employees and those of the store adjacent to the establishment.

Chief of Police Antonio Castañeda reported that the officers arrived on the scene and parked a unit behind the Suburban to keep it from leaving and ordered the man to get off of the vehicle.

According to the report, the subject disobeyed the order and placed the vehicle in reverse crashing into the patrol car.

The officers proceeded to get off of their unit on the passenger's side and attempted to reach into the Suburban to turn off the ignition, but the man continued in reverse hitting the officers with his door.

It was then that the officers feared for their lives and began shooting at the vehicle.

The SUV sped off despite being hit three times in the windshield and three times in the driver's side door.  The Suburban sped away with a flat tire and did not come to a stop until it wrecked with another vehicle in which the passengers were a woman and her child.

The material damages were extensive.

Rivas was detained and will likely be charged with wreckless driving and most importantly harming the officers and using his vehicle as a deadly weapon.

It is unknown why the man was acting in such a way and the case remains under investigation.
