Brackettville Fireworks & Festivities At The Fort

Thursday, 28 June 2012 00:00 Published in June 2012

Together, Fort Clark Springs and Brackettville host one of the best hometown Independence Day celebrations to be found in Southwest Texas. This year’s celebration will be held July 6-7. It’s family-friendly fun for all ages! Best of all, admission to all events is FREE.
History. Native Americans, Spanish explorers, cowboys, Buffalo Soldiers – and assorted tourists -- have all been drawn to Las Moras Springs through the ages. It was these very springs, which made the site of such military significance, causing Fort Riley to be established in 1852, with the land leased from none other than Samuel A. Maverick. Fort Riley was renamed Fort Clark, and in 1856, the settlement of Las Moras changed its name to Brackett, after Oscar B. Brackett, who established the supply village. The two – Brackett and Fort Clark, have been two halves of the same coin since then.
Today. Brackettville and Fort Clark Springs are still thriving and drawing travelers to the area. Though no longer a military post, the fort is a favored destination for tourists and those seeking an active retirement lifestyle. Come on in for a peek into the rich history, beautiful architecture, and fascinating museum. Take a dip in the 3rd largest (and possibly coldest) natural swimming pool in Texas, if you need to cool off between activities!
