Two elementary schools have been seriously damaged over the summer by acts of vandalism.  Seco Mines Elementary was broken into and the faculty restrooms sustained serious damage, sinks and fixtures were broken as well as windows and doors at the school.
Chief of Police Eduardo Esquivel, informed The News Gram of another incident in which Rosita Valley Literacy Academy was also vandalized on the Southside of our community where one or more individuals gained entry into the school and made away with two flat screen televisions and two computer monitors.
EPISD Police are trying to identify the culprits in these two incidents.
Chief Esquivel mentioned that during summer vacations, his officers make frequent rounds to all EPISD schools and buildings.  He added that unfortunately these incidents occurred at times when officers
were not in the general vicinity.
Students return to classes the last week of August.

An EPPD official is presently in Ruidoso, NM to participate in a training for a new prevention program which is going to be established in Eagle Pass.
The aforementioned information was given to The News Gram by Chief of Police Juan Antonio Castañeda who mentioned his intentions of initiating a D.A.R.E. Program at the secondary level to attempt to deal with the rampant drug abuse and gang pressure at these junior high levels.
He added that these types of programs are very important and in order for them to work, the need the cooperation of the EPISD.
The D.A.R.E. Program is a program geared to 1st-5th Grades at the elementary levels.
He feels that there has been a need for this program at the secondary level for some time now and is taking the initiative to focus on the junior high levels at this time this coming school year.

The ICT was the backdrop for the 2012 Eagle Pass Job Fair coordinated by the Texas Workforce Commission.
Approximately 1000 prospective employees descended on the ICT in search of employment as the event was termed by all involved as a resounding success as companies from across South Texas from 26 different businesses and employers came in and took resumés and applications for positions they so desired to fill ranging from oil field hands to truck drivers and clerks to office assistants, cooks, nurses and care givers.
As soon as doors opened, a very large line of job seekers filed into the main conference room of the ICT.
