A very special event in the history of our border was held Thursday evening between our two communities of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras. The event focused on the Flood of June 28, 1954.
Dignitaries from the two cities were present and the Main Street Project Committee in conjunction with the City of Eagle Pass, Jesse Fuentes Career And Technology Education at CC Winn High School and Eagle Pass Parks and Recreation Department assisted with the development of this event.

LeBron James is going back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. James tells Sports Illustrated, that he's decided to go home. It's a move that would have seemed unfathomable four years ago, after the venomous fallout that followed his decision to leave Cleveland for the Miami Heat. James told SI: "My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn't realize that four years ago. I do now." He spent his first seven NBA seasons in Cleveland. In four years with the Heat, he went to the NBA Finals four times, winning two championships. And now heads back to Cleveland to see if he can finally deliver on his promise of winning a crown for that title-starved city. James is from Akron, Ohio, not far from Cleveland.
Evalynna Suarez, daughter of Jesus and Kathryn Suarez, and a student at Eagle Pass Junior High School in the Eagle Pass Independent School District has been selected to travel to the Austin/San Antonio area as a participant in Education in Action’s Lone Star Leadership Academy July 20-25, 2014. Evalynna’s selection for the Academy was based on her outstanding academic success, demonstrated leadership ability, a nomination from her teacher, Mr. Carlos Rodriguez, a math teacher at the Eagle Pass Junior High School, and her involvement in school and community activities. Education in Action, dedicated to empowering young people to be informed and active leaders in their communities, hosts the Lone Star Leadership Academy.

Sandra Martinez, Director of the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce informed The News Gram of the latest comings and goings of the Chamber in and around South Texas.
Martinez recently attended a meeting of regional Chamber of Commerce Directors in Uvalde at the behest of the new Director there who basically wanted to touch base with her colleagues to see what other communities are doing.

A one-car accident on the 3500 Block of El Indio Highway near the Border Patrol station south of Eagle Pass led to the subsequent arrest of an Eagle Pass woman.
Humberto O. Garza, Public Information Officer for the Eagle Pass Police Department, informed The news gram of the incident which occurred on July 9th where Rosa Linda Bustillos, 49, took out a portion of the guardrail.

A group of teenagers who had terrorized citizens for weeks were finally apprehended on July 9th at approximately 3:00 AM when officers with the Eagle Pass Police Department Patrol Division got word that a pickup truck black and red in color was seen dragging City of Eagle Pass trash cans from the passenger side window of the Chevrolet.
According to Humberto O. Garza, Public Information Officer for the EPPD, patrolmen pulled over a vehicle matching that description on the north side of the city adjacent to EPJ.
Witnesses confirmed and the three occupants of the vehicle admitted to the crime.
Eagle Pass eagle Head Basketball Coach Neto Reyes and his staff held a week-long skills camp where children from 3rd to 8th grade could spend some time working on and developing some of the most basic skills needed to play the great game of basketball. Two key positions were filled at the last meeting of the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees as the positions of Food Service Coordinator and Transportation Director were both filled.
The new Food Service Coordinator will be Hector Vielma and the new Transportation Director will be Manuel Reyes.
In other district news, EOC and state test re-takes are being given at this time, some of these can positively affect the graduation rate at both high schools.
