Bees cause alarm on Wedgefield Dr.

After several incidents in Maverick County involving swarms of bees which have killed two men in the past two years and injured others, a call was made to the Eagle Pass Fire Department in reference to a resident on Wedgefield Drive in the Royal Ridge Subdivision who feared leaving his home due to a large amount of bees visible.

When fire trucks and rescue personnel arrived, members of the pest-control squad from Border Pest Control were already there to advise that they had the situation under control and would not require any extra support.

In an official press release by Humberto O. Garza, Public Information Officer for the Eagle Pass Police Department, officers of the Eagle Pass Police Department initiated an operation in an attempt to deter and prevent alleged acts of prostitution within the city.  

An officer of the Eagle Pass Police Department assigned to this operation was solicited by a female and the female subsequently arrested for solicitation of prostitution.

39 year-old Dora Moraida was transported to the police department where she was processed and later presented before Municipal Court Judge Ruben Montemayor and transferred to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $2,000 bond.

What is not known is who and when local merchants in the downtown area may have contacted local law enforcement to address this issue when according to citizens this type of activity is nothing new as any given Monday Friday or Saturday, there are reports of these individuals in and around the downtown area as well as in the areas of the two flea markets.

Three men shot at local bar early Sunday

A grisly scene was a local bar when one or more gunmen fired a barrage of gunfire to three individuals attempting to flee.  The incident caused alarm within the establishment as well as in the immediate area as eyewitnesses say the gunshots could be heard from outside Gerardo's Bar.

DALLAS (AP) —

Federal health officials have confirmed that a patient being treated at a Dallas hospital has tested positive for Ebola.

The case announced Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control is the first Ebola case diagnosed in the United States.

Officials at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital say the unidentified patient is being kept in isolation. Presbyterian Hospital officials say they're following CDC recommendations to keep doctors, staff and patients safe.

On August 18, 2011, Patsy Ann Brockbank crossed into Eagle Pass from Piedras Negras in the early morning hours and disappeared.  She was driving a 2011 silver/gray Nissan Rogue, license plate # CK3N650.  At the time, Patsy was age 63, 5' 6" tall, auburn hair of shoulder length, and weighing approximately 130 lbs.  Patsy was in the area to conduct family business.  She grew up in Eagle Pass and knew the area well.
A reward of $10,000 is being offered to anyone who can lead authorities to her whereabouts, alive or otherwise, with the stipulation that Patsy is positively identified through DNA testing and returned to her family before the reward money is released.  Should you know of Patsy's whereabouts, or where her remains can be found, please contact Detective Jose

Cardinals sustain drives on ground, Mavs fall 34-7

The CC Winn Mavericks defense was on the field for a significant amount of Friday's game versus District 29-AAAAA rival the San Antonio Southside Cardinals where the visiting team ate up time and effort to sustain drives even on third and long situations time and time again.

Cardinal signal caller Johnny Treviño executed their inside trap offense to a "T" and the Cardinals took a 27-0 lead into the final stages of the game.

Eagles and Dragons involved in track meet;

Southwest pulls away at end with 54-44 win

The Eagle Pass Eagles and the Southwest Dragons were involved in a veritable track meet of a football game.  On one side senior running backs Jonathon Cruz and Reilly Riggs.  On the other side, Ty Chisum and Mark Venegas.

Both teams traded score after score after score in the first half with the Eagles striking first on a perfectly executed reverse pass from multi-talented DeShawn Franklin to QB Ty Chisum who had to go down to get the pass before hauling it 70 yards for the first Eagle touchdown.  Gonzalo Martinez was perfect on the evening on his points after touchdowns when asked to do so as later Coach Tom Gonzalez would go for two twice.

Region supported nearly 155,000 full-time jobs last year

(San Antonio, Sept. 23, 2014) –The production of oil and natural gas in the Eagle Ford Shale generated more than $87 billion in total economic output for the state last year, according to a study released today by The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Institute for Economic Development. UTSA researchers also concluded that shale activity supported almost 155,000 full-time equivalent jobs and provided more than $4.4 billion to local and state governments in 2013.

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) — After more than six weeks in limbo, NASCAR star Tony Stewart finally got the news he had been hoping for.

A grand jury that heard testimony from more than two dozen witnesses, including accident reconstruction experts and drivers, and looked at photographs and video decided against bringing criminal charges against Stewart for the death of 20-year-old sprint car driver Kevin Ward Jr. during an Aug. 9 race.

That doesn't mean it's over.

A few hours after Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo announced the grand jury's decision in this upstate New York hamlet, the Ward family indicated in a statement read over the telephone by sister Kayla Herring that they will seek civil damages in the young driver's death.
