Former City Councilman William Davis delivered an emotional speech after seeing his successor Yolanda Ramon sworn in on Wednesday's Special Meeting of city council.
"I've always tried to represent the best interest of our citizens, to make sure our city continues to move in a positive direction.  That we utilize our funds and be completely fiscally responsible and make sure we provide the service that each and every one of our citizens deserves," said the councilman, who also serves as President of the Chamber of Commerce, "If we don't have a secure environment, then a lot of the things we desire should not exist.  That's why I'm real happy to say that I look forward to the ground breaking of our new Municipal Safety Complex and new Fire Department which is something that is greatly needed."
He also made mention of the new public library, the paving of miles and miles of city streets and countless projects that went on during his tenure that were too many to list.
"But it's not just me, it's our wonderful staff.  Together we sgared a vision, a vision I still feel very passionate about.  I may not be seated in the seat behind me, but it doesn't mean my drive and my passion for my city will ever go away."

Postmaster Ernesto Saucedo informed The News Gram of the fact that he and his staff picked up 3,200 ponds of food which will be taken directly to the OLOR Food Pantry.
Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers, who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive — the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
Led by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees and other volunteers, the drive has delivered more than one billion pounds of food the past 22 years.
Carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. Nearly 1,500 NALC branches in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands are involved.
The United States Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers, National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, AFL-CIO, Feeding America, United Way, Valassis and Valpak Direct Marketing Systems are all supporting this year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
All around the country on Saturday, the United States Postal Service had mail carriers collecting non-perishable food donations as part of this campaign.

After a GMC Acadia was stolen from the parking lot at Mall de las Aguilas, Maverick County Sheriff, Tom Schmerber announced that they are working on obtaining a grant from the State of Texas for the sheriff's department to work together on the rising incidents of auto theft.
Although no specific amounts were known, the sheriff said these resources are provided by the state for the city of Eagle Pass and Maverick County to specifically address this type of crime.
While in the county have not seen as many car thefts as they did earlier this year, they are in the best position to attack the issue and solve cases that do occur.
Schmerber concluded that for the moment the city of Eagle Pass, has not asked their support in location of the GMC Acadia but they are in a position to provide assistance as they have in the past. The Texas Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority general fund was established in 1991 by legislation that required the collection of a $1 premium once per year for each insured vehicle in Texas. That fee was increased to $2 in 2013. The fee is assessed of all agencies insuring vehicles in Texas, and is collected for ABTPA by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Funds are distributed through the grant process to eligible organizations and agencies which make application for funding to ABTPA. For fiscal year 2015, 29 grants have been awarded. Project categories eligible for funding include enforcement/apprehension, prosecution/adjudication, public education, prevention of stolen vehicle/auto parts sales, and reduction of stolen vehicles moved across the Mexican border.
