A routine family violence call lead to the arrest of a young man for possession of marijuana. According to a press release by the Maverick County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a family violence call in Seco Mines near the 11:15 PM hour.

A strange incident occurred on June 23rd where a deer attacked a man who was tending to his goats.
According to a press release by the Sheriff's office detailing the highly unusual incident, a sixty year-old male in El Indio, Texas was attacked by a deer when he attempted to feed his goats.
EMS crews were summoned to the location to transport the individual to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for further medical treatment. The deer was killed on sight prior to the deputy's arrival.

De acuerdo a un comunicado de prensa de la oficina del Sheriff detallando el incidente altamente inusual, un señor de sesenta años de edad en El Indio, Texas fue atacado por un venado cuando intentó alimentar a sus cabras. para tratamiento médico.

President of the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Trustees Joaquin Rodriguez has tendered his Letter of Resignation which as of June 30th, the date of the next regular board meeting, will be official.
Rodriguez has served on the MCHD Board of Trustees for approximately five years and was most recently re-elected at the November general election.
The local attorney who has been a very productive, yet outspoken member of the board which has worked diligently to continue to provide much needed services for the citizens of Eagle Pass, Maverick County, South Texas and even Mexico such as the advent of a local cancer treatment center, the advent of specialists in cardiology and orthopedic surgery among many others.
His submission of this letter of resignation comes as a surprise so early in his second term, however Rodriguez cites personal reasons for stepping down.

The Texas Workforce Commission has released the latest unemployment rates and it's good news that employers are beginning to re-staff their workforces in the Eagle Ford Shale Project.
According to Middle Rio Grande WDA Labor Force Statistics, the unemployment rate has come down significantly since January of 2014 where it hovered at 8.9% with 6,672 unemployed individuals from a prospective workforce of 74,925. 68,253 eligible employees in our region had jobs. As of April of this year the rate has gone down to 6.7% with only 4,962 unemployed prospective employees from a prospective workforce of 74,063. There were 69,081 employed workers in our region, a big increase since 2014. May figures cite a 6.5% unemployment rate in the Middle Rio Grande with only 4,850 unemployed individuals out of a workforce of 74,362. 69,512 eligible employees have a job today.

A power outage at approximately 1:00 PM left a large portion of the City of Del Rio without electricity for half a day.
According to a report, the culprits may have been some mylar balloons which became tangled in power lines.
A power surge completely separated and downed power lines in the area. The surge then caused an explosion or some sort of fire at a substation on Gibbs Street.
AEP technicians could be seen throughout the area attempting to seek out the problem and restore electrical power to the area in which some 8,000 citizens were affected.
The City of Del Rio via their Facebook account informed that 4,000 were still without power as of 6:30 PM.
According to Raul Leal of the Texas Department of Transportation, full power was restored at 9:30 PM.

A report of spousal abuse arrived to the Maverick County Sheriff's Department that a man had accused his wife of physically assaulting him.
According to a press release from the Maverick County Sheriff's Department, units responded to the 200 block of Chula Vista Road, where a male stated he was punched in the face by his wife after having a verbal argument with her. Alejandra Almaguer admitted that she did, indeed, strike her husband. Mrs. Almaguer was arrested and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center after the complainant wished to file charges.
A Ford F-250 spontaneously combusted on Highway 277 South early Monday morning.
According to preliminary reports from the Maverick County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to US Highway 277, mile marker 616 in reference to a vehicle on fire.
Contact was made with the driver of a Ford 250 that was found engulfed in flames.
The driver advised that pickup had mechanical problems that caused the incident.
Eagle Pass Fire crews were on hand to extinguish the fire.

A hit and run accident led to the arrest of a twenty year-old Eagle Pass man and the subsequent citing of a nineteen year-old female who will be facing charges before Municipal Court.
According to a press release by Humberto O. Garza, Public Information Officer for the Eagle Pass Police Department, officers responded to a hit and run motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles within the 1400 block of Raintree Drive.
Investigating officers obtained a description of a white Ford Mustang which fled the area.
Officers searching the area located a vehicle matching the description and were able to conduct a traffic stop within the 1100 block of Concho Street.
The twenty year-old driver was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and was arrested.
A nineteen year-old female passenger was issued a citation to appear in the Eagle Pass Municipal Court for the charge of minor in possession of alcohol and released at the scene.
The driver was transported to the police department charged with Driving Under the Influence and Leaving the Scene of an Accident and was later presented before a magistrate for the charge of leaving the scene of an accident and transferred to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $2,000.00 bond
